- Do I really need a design to have my small yard landscaped?
At Nature Designs Landscaping we like to have a plan. The planning process helps solidify your mind about what you want. This is how we learn exactly what you want and expect. It also allows us ample time to get to know each other’s work style and communication style. At Nature Designs Landscaping, we do more than just a landscape design.
- We accurately measure your property.
- Test your soil.
- Research local codes.
- Interact with your homeowner’s association and obtain its approval, if necessary.
- We pull permits, if necessary.
- We will submit a preliminary concept design for your landscaped areas. We ask for your feedback on this concept before we draw the final landscape design. This process may take several meetings before we have a final design.
- How much does the plan cost?
The plan cost varies based upon the size and complexity of the project. A design for a grand lagoon pool, fireplace and retaining walls costs more than a small landscape renovation of a front yard. At our first appointment, we will walk your property with you and listen to your ideas and desires. At that time we will be able to give you the cost to design your landscape. This cost is credited to your construction project when it comes time to construct your new landscape.
- How much does Landscape construction cost?
This is a difficult question to answer because it varies so greatly. It is possible to spend more on a small yard than a large one; although the sky is the limit with larger properties. Generally real estate professionals will advise you to spend 10-20% of the value of your home. However, this is a personal choice. If you plan to spend years in your home and want to enjoy every minute, you may want to spend the money and time to make it exactly your dream home.
- How long will the project take?
The planning period is typically the longest. This can be 2 weeks to a few months depending upon how quickly you and the landscape designer figure out exactly what you want. A Nature Designs Landscaping project manager, landscape designer and you meet multiple times to insure the final design matches your needs and wants.
Landscape construction generally happens quickly, especially after we have developed a formal landscape design. Some elements take longer because materials need to cure. Swimming pools, in particular, take longer. But you will be amazed how much landscape construction our crew can accomplish in one day.
- What if I do not know what I want?
During the landscape design phase, you will discover what you want. At Nature Designs Landscaping we are here to help you in this discovery and make it a pleasant experience. We have the experience to know what options are available to you. The landscape designer will have the creativity to match a unique design to your specific tastes. You guide us with your feedback. It is a very interactive process.
- What if I do not like the plan Nature Designs Landscaping presents?
No problem, we will change it. Usually there are aspects you will love, and some you want to omit. We will not be offended. This is a very important process; your feedback is essential and we encourage your feedback, even objections and criticism.
- I want to save water, but I do not like rocks and cactus. What can I do?
There are lots of ways to save water without going to rocks and cactus. Drought tolerant plants can look tropical if designed right. You can still have your lawn and water loving plants, but in smaller spaces. Updating your irrigation system to be more efficient, using mulch, and ensuring that you have the right plants in the right place will all help to save water. See more in our section about Saving Water.
- When Nature Designs Landscaping remove the debris from my yard what happens to it?
Plant material is recycled into mulch. Other debris is recycled if possible, reused onsite or properly disposed of if not recyclable. We will clean up at the end of each work day and put our tools away. Your home may be a construction zone for a while, but it is still your home and will be treated as such by our employees.
- Does Nature Designs Landscaping employ environmentally conscious practices?
Yes we do. Including:
- Recycling of plant material.
- Recycling of debris (wood, concrete, asphalt, metal, plant containers)
- Water saving practices, at our own facility and our clients’ properties.
- Our trucks run on biodiesel.
- Natural pest control methods whenever possible (Integrated Pest Management). Proper application of pesticides by our licensed professionals when necessary.
- Organic compost mulch reduces the need for inorganic fertilizer.
- Buy and use local products and supplies if possible.
- Does Nature Designs Landscaping use any organic gardening practices?
We use some organic practices on all of our projects, but when a client requests, we can maintain their landscape completely organically.
- Does Nature Designs Landscaping subcontract with other companies?
At Nature Designs Landscaping, we believe that using our own tradesmen and laborers provides a better finished landscape and experience for our clients. Using our people allows us to control the quality, reliability and progress of our construction projects and landscape designs. We believe this practice sets us apart. With very few exceptions, at Nature Designs Landscaping our own employees are the artisans, tradesmen and technicians working on your landscape construction project.
